Just Launched! Explore our New Topic Gallery
Healthy Mama, Healthy Baby
Did you know that every 90 seconds, a woman dies in childbirth from preventable causes?
This startling statistic is at the heart of our brand new Topic Gallery, Healthy Mama, Healthy Baby, launched today as part of our new online exhibition, MAMA: Motherhood Around the Globe. In Healthy Mama, Healthy Baby, we delve into the pressing issue of global maternal health and maternal mortality, and ask: What are the realities of 21st century pregnancy and childbirth? How do factors such as geography, age, and income affect your chance of a safe delivery? And what can we do to save mothers lives?
Some of the compelling, illuminating content you’ll find in Healthy Mama, Healthy Baby is:
-
An interview with one of our featured HEROES, Rhoda Amafumba, a midwife in Zambia who uses a simple but incredibly effective medical tool called Life Wrap to save the lives of women in labor—and who is training other midwives to do the same. Meet Rhoda >>
-
A YOUR VOICES art piece by Renee Hoffman, "Cesarean Quilt." which tells how Renee healed from her traumatic labor and delivery using creativity and art. Check out "Cesarean Quilt" >>
-
A BIG IDEAS essay from activist and supermodel Christy Turlington-Burns, who makes the case for prioritizing mothers in order to make maternal health a pressing political issue. Read Christy’s essay, “Prioritizing Mothers” >>
-
A short documentary in YOUR VOICES called “Birth Journal Maternity Excerpt,” which follows a woman in Colombia as she gives birth with the most basic of hospital care. Watch the documentary now>>
-
And much more >>
While you check out the new gallery, be sure to also Take the Pledge to improve maternal mortality rates globally, an initiative between IMOW and the maternal health organization Every Mother Counts! New Topic Galleries will continue to launch through September. Stay tuned for more information!

Millenniums, we'll stay ...

Hey TakingITGlobal friends,
Here I share with you a poem I wrote about the M-Network. The Millennium Network is a community and organization of dedicated, motivated, and hardworking people with a common goal - Leadership Development as a vehicle for social change.
As a 2008 Provincial Laureate of the Millennium Excellence Scholarships, I am an active member of the M-Network.
Please don't hesitate to add your comments, suggestions and thoughts. Bonne lecture :)
Millenniums, we'll stay ...

Millenniums, we were ...
Millenniums, we are ...
Millenniums, we'll stay ...
*********
Working together, paving the way ...
Dreaming together of a better day ...
*********
Le Réseau du Millénaire nous a marqués ...
À maintes reprises ... À tout jamais ...
*********
Dans un monde en constante mutation,
Il nous rappelle nos réelles passions,
Nos valeurs communes, notre essence;
L'engagement citoyen et l'excellence ...
*********
Imagine a community of young leaders ...
With multiple talents... Coming from all corners ...
But sharing one goal, now, tomorrow and forever ;
Making their communities better, greater, stronger ...
*********
That's the M-Network ...
A network not only to network ...
But to learn and grow together ...
To make Canada and the world better ...
*********
Il nous arrive tous de rêver ...
Et de voir nos rêves s'envoler ...
Il m'arrive, parfois, de rêver,
Et de voir mes rêves se réaliser ...
*********
Le Réseau du Millénaire est là ... pour nous aider ...
À rêver, mais surtout, à agir, grandir et se développer
Pour transformer ces rêves en réalités ...
Développer des leaders chevronnés ...
Des leaders proches de leurs communautés.
*********
Millennium friends ... you know...
Eleanor Roosevelt once said ...
"The future belongs to those
who believe in the beauty of their dreams"
Let's all believe in the beauty of our M:dreams !
